Unsurprisingly, January has been dubbed the unofficial month of divorce.

Experts say it all boils down to one thing – Christmas. People simply don’t want to get divorced during the festivities. Couple that with Blue Monday, which falls on 16th Jan 2023, then those soon to be divorced are sure to need a little pick me up.

Celebrate your new beginning with a mood boosting party surrounded by all your favourite people. Here’s how…

Bright & Breezy

Decorate in happy, warm colours such as yellow, orange and pink. The brighter the colour, the lighter the mood! Host your event in the daytime if possible, it’s proven that exposure to sunlight has an uplifting effect on your mood.

I Will Survive!

Take to the mic and belt out empowering songs to make you feel good. Sing your heart out to Katy Perry’s Roar, Kelly Clarkson’s Stronger or You Don’t Own Me by Lesley Gore.

A Smashing Good Time

Grab your hammer and whack your way through your emotions! Smash cakes (sweet treats encased in a smash-able chocolate shell) are hugely popular right now. Release your anger and be rewarded with goodies – let this be a metaphor for your new life.

When Life Gives You Lemons

Make lemonade! Quite literally. Turn your bitter situation into a sweet one with our delicious recipe for tipsy lemonade. Leave out the hard stuff if you’d prefer an alcohol free version.

  • 6 unwaxed lemons, washed
  • 1 large orange, squeezed
  • 200ml vodka or white rum
  • 150g granulated sugar
  • 1L sparkling water, chilled
  • Ice cubes

Step 1: Remove the zest of the lemons and juice. Place the zest in a saucepan with the sugar and 400ml water.
Step 2: Place on a low heat and bring to the boil slowly, stirring frequently to dissolve the sugar.
Step 3: Once the syrup is boiling, add the juice from the lemons and orange, and immediately remove from the heat. Leave until completely cool, then strain into a jug and chill until needed.
Step 4: To serve, mix well with chilled sparkling water and alcohol. Pour over ice. Enjoy!
