We love nothing more than a great engagement at Cheshire Engaged. So when we heard about Sale-based artist Caroline Boyd’s latest business offering bespoke wall art for newly engaged couples, we had to find out more…

Boy Oh Boy

Caroline is an illustrator, brand consultant and graphic designer better known as Boy Oh Boy Designs. A painter and artist all her life, she set up Boy Oh Boy Designs to turn her passion into a career when lockdown hit.

“I was a marketing manager for most of my 15-year career and always particularly enjoyed the visual branding aspect of work, plus I painted and illustrated for fun outside of work,” she explains. “Like many people, the lockdown provided that additional time to really pursue my interests and consider what I wanted in life, and I got serious about turning my art into a career. I retrained in graphic design at Manchester’s Shillington College of Design, set up Boy Oh Boy Designs and I haven’t looked back since!”

The Power Of Instagram

Instagram proved to be a brilliant way for Boy Oh Boy Designs to gain exposure and reach clients. As well as working on brand and logo identities, Caroline became known locally for illustrating shop fronts
to encourage support for the Sale high street during the hard times COVID posed. She also produced hundreds of commissions with people purchasing portraits of pets, homes, shopfronts and meaningful locations – most often as a gift.

A Fresh Idea

Caroline says, “In January last year I thought about creating a second business specifically celebrating all things engagement and weddings. Art is a way to celebrate people’s meaningful places where special moments happened through very stylised, minimalist and personalised line drawings.”

Caroline’s website features a number of popular locations where proposals often occur – Venice, Paris, Santorini, Tuscany – already drawn so that wall art can be personalised and added to the shopping basket by the buyer.

By inserting the names of the special couple and their engagement date, within minutes you can order a bespoke piece of art to be printed on beautiful paper stock – framed too if desired – and delivered to the customer or even directly to the gift recipients.

The Perfect Gift

“My aim was for these pieces to have a ‘wow’ factor as well as to create an easy purchase process,” she says, “I really think the website is unusual in enabling a customer to create something with a personal feel really quickly and simply. I print it professionally, add the wrapping, twine and wax seal, and then post it in a lovely white rigid box for the perfect unboxing experience. I’ve had great feedback – it definitely impresses!”

Beautiful Memories, Beautiful Walls

If a proposal location isn’t included in the ready made art section of the website, or if you’d like a wedding venue and date illustrated as a

gift for newlyweds instead, then you can get in touch with Caroline directly to request a bespoke illustration from a photograph.

“There’s a contact form on my website or else customers can direct message on Instagram
or Whatsapp to discuss more,” concludes Caroline. “I’ve had a few customers decide to buy a gift card instead, meaning they can give the gift of choice to the couple, who then liaise with me themselves about precisely how they want their artwork and frame to look. Always a good gift choice too!”
