Forest Side is a magical retreat surrounded by the stunning Grasmere countryside. Luxury in the Lakes, staying at Forest Side feels like stepping into a fairytale…
Tucked beneath the rugged fells of the Lake District, the Gothic-style mansion can be found surrounded by winding paths, lush gardens, and centuries-old trees, creating an atmosphere of serene seclusion.
BLISSFUL BEDS & BATHROOMS
The rooms at Forest Side are indulgent in every sense, fusing contemporary elegance with the charm of original features, creating spaces that feel simultaneously stylish and timeless. Ultra-comfy, generously sized beds invite leisurely lie-ins, while large windows frame the gorgeous hotel grounds.
Bathrooms here are havens of tranquility, boasting limestone tiles, Farrow & Ball wall coverings, double-ended baths, and top-of-the-range showers. Natural bath and body products, inspired by the countryside, enhance the experience further, turning a simple wash into a restorative ritual. And for those who can’t get enough, these products are available to purchase at reception.
Each day, the staff thoughtfully leave a ‘cake of the day’ in your room, a small luxury that makes all the difference when returning from a day of exploring The Lake District.

FOUR-LEGGED LUXURY
Forest Side welcomes well-behaved canine companions with open arms, offering six dedicated dog-friendly rooms. Each pup receives a welcome pack, complete with a dog bed, bowls, treats, and even a personalised letter. With 43 acres of woodland at their disposal, dogs can explore to their heart’s content, with hotel staff providing walk suggestions to ensure you both experience the best of Grasmere and the surrounding areas.
After each stay, rooms are impeccably cleaned, ensuring non-dog-loving guests remain blissfully unaware of any previous four-legged visitors. A maximum of two dogs per room helps maintain the perfect balance between luxury and a genuinely pet-friendly stay.
MICHELIN STAR DINING
Dining at Forest Side is a 4-course or 8-course, multi- sensory adventure from Chef Paul Leonard. The menu changes seasonally but consistently celebrates the natural bounty of Cumbria, focusing on ingredients like foraged mushrooms, local seafood and game, and produce from the hotel’s own gardens. Plates are inventive and unique, featuring dishes like ‘Princess Pearl’ Oyster Mushrooms, Lightly Steamed North Sea Cod with Morecambe Bay Shrimp Sauce, and Salt Aged Short Horn Beef.
Staff’s knowledge and attentiveness elevate the experience, and if a dish doesn’t quite appeal to you, alternatives are thoughtfully offered. Wines are carefully curated, from crisp Rieslings to intriguing orange wines, and the cocktail selection is equally as impressive.
Whether you’re wandering ancient woodlands, snuggling into a luxurious bed, or savouring a Michelin-starred menu, every detail has been meticulously considered at Forest Side.
