Real Weddings: Lauren & Shaun

Real Weddings, Tying The Knot

The happy couple, who both work in weddings, tied the knot in the summer of 2024, at a historic house in Lancashire.

But before that, the pair enjoyed a festive proposal during a family holiday to Switzerland…

“We got engaged on Christmas Day,” smiles Lauren, “it was a typical Christmas morning with everyone opening presents. The last present under the tree was an iPad with a lock screen that said ‘play me’ – it was a video of our time together and when I looked up, Shaun was on one knee in-front of everyone!”

Fast forward four years, and the couple are now wed, following a 100 person strong celebration at Wyresdale Park.

“Working in the entertainment side of weddings has seen me visit many different venues,” explains Shaun, “Wyresdale was one that stuck out to me, and when I took Lauren to view it, we booked instantly.”

“I loved the fact it was an exclusive use venue,” Lauren says, “it was a lovely mixture of barn atmosphere with stately home feel – the best of both worlds. It even had its own boating lake meaning we got pictures on a little white row boat! We viewed two other more local venues but Wyresdale was well worth the hour-drive from home.”

Their wedding theme was timeless, in keeping with their preference for the photographs. Classic black and white tones were teamed with soft Champagne golds and romantic pinks to style the venue.

“We still wanted to capture both of our personalities throughout the decor though,” Lauren says, “that’s why we added some pops of colour and dotted disco balls around!”

Following a canapés and drinks reception, guests tucked into sharing antipasto starters, BBQ street food family feasting mains and lemon cheesecake desserts, before an evening filled with ‘macho nachos’, all from caterers The Striped Kitchen. Music was a huge part of the day; from pianists, saxophonists and guitarists to a DJ, string quartet and a roaming brass band. Watercolour artist, Kerris Stirling was on hand for entertainment too.

“The day was so memorable,” remembers Shaun, “but waiting at the end of the aisle for Lauren with our 11 month old, Ted, and seeing his reaction to her for the first time, that was special.”

“That was amazing,” Lauren says, “but I loved walking into the wedding breakfast as well. Shaun is a saxophonist and he played us into the room and it was incredible watching everyone’s faces as we came down the stairs!”

But, was there anything they’d change?

“We most definitely should’ve booked a content creator! The wedding blues are so real and you don’t receive your professional images back for a while, so not seeing any images or footage was a killer,” she concludes.
