Who We Are

In 1961, Ernest Henry Slack and Robert Eric Andrews formed Slack & Andrews Manufacturing, a journey that would span seven decades and beyond. The company is now in its third generation, and two of the original members of staff are still working with the team, both of whom have sixty-plus years of experience in the trade.

From working out of a humble workshop on Shudehill, the company has flourished into one of Manchester’s most reputable manufacturing jewellers. Although technology and methods have evolved in keeping with the times, our core principles are still the same as they were sixty three years ago. We aim to craft exceptional jewellery that is unique to your personal requirements and is far more affordable than the prices found at high street jewellers.

What We Offer

We offer a wide variety of jewellery, from engagement and wedding rings to earrings and pendants and almost everything in between. Through a combination of years of experience and our state-of-the-art design technology we will try our hand at almost any bespoke design or idea that you have in mind. We have recently designed a ‘Manchester Bee’ diamond pendant, a commemorative train ticket and a golf ball marker, all of which were made using eighteen carat yellow gold. The possibilities are endless and the sky’s the limit!

We feel proud when we see our customers delighted with the hard work that we put into making their jewellery and this spurs us on to maintain our high standards. For a long time, Slack & Andrews was only a ‘word of mouth’ company and one of Manchester’s best kept secrets, but now we are thrilled that the secret is out!

As a result of our longevity we have built up wonderful associations with a number of distinguished institutions, such as the London Diamond Bourse and the National Association of Jewellers.

 

What Customers Can Expect

What makes us unique in our trade is that we work with the customer every step of the way to ensure their vision is fully realised. From the very beginning we work hand-in-hand with customers, from the early design stage all the way to any last minute modifications or personal touches that the customer desires.

Buying jewellery may seem like a daunting task, especially if you’re new to it or if it’s a very important piece, like an engagement ring. Our intention is to make the process as easy to understand as possible and we are happy to explain anything you don’t understand as well as use our expertise to advise on anything you’re unsure about. We aren’t satisfied until the customer is happy.

The process of, for example, choosing an engagement ring begins with an idea. The customer may have seen a design from one of their friends, online or on our social media pages. The design may vary from something simple like a solitaire style, to a fairly complex and unique pattern.

With this idea in mind we can work with the customer’s budget to find the perfect stone(s) for their ring. The choice of stone is pivotal in the creation of a ring and we are more than happy to suggest or advise you if you are unsure on anything.

Once the pattern is agreed we can start to construct the ring, firstly by creating a computer generated image ready to be printed in wax on our 3D printer. We can also make a silver sample of the ring to ensure it meets expectations before we move ahead and cast the ring into the metal of your choosing.

Once the mount is ready we then set the diamonds (or other stones) and we complete the piece and it is ready to be worn. If you want to make the ring even more personalised then you may choose to have it engraved with a name, a date, or a message that is special to you.

It’s worth noting that we can send the customer photos of the ring at any stage in the process, whether that is a computer generated image, a silver sample, or the unfinished mount (in whatever metal has been selected). We believe that jewellery is such a meaningful and precious gift and so we want our customers to be involved in every step of the process, from the initial design to the finished piece.

Of course we do have a selection of rings in stock which can be used as a guideline or for inspiration, and sometimes a customer will see something they love that we have already made and it is a match made in Heaven.

Customers are also able to book appointments, get a rough estimate of prices and also send any queries over to us

Pride In Family

We take immense pride in the fact that we are a third-generation family business and because of this we aim to maintain a number of core values in our work. We have always aspired to have enduring relationships with our customers and this is shown in our long standing customers who we have been working with since our humble beginnings.

We look after our customers and love to hear that their family and friends have been coming to us for a number of years. As a testament to this we have many customers who are themselves second or third generation of customers. We enjoy hearing that a customer’s family has been coming to us for fifty or sixty years, or that a ring made by us has been passed down the generations from grandmother to mother to daughter. We like to think that we have been a part of your story since 1961.
