With the day of love fast approaching, we speak to the experts at datingscout.com to learn the top dating turn-offs from last year, so you know what to look out for if you’re heading out on a new date this Valentine’s Day.
Bad Hygiene
This includes people being put off by others because of bad breath, cigarette smoke, long fingernails, not washing their hands after using the bathroom or not brushing their teeth twice a day.
Lack of Engagement
Not initiating intimacy or not making an effort to plan dates ranks second highest on this list, alongside poor listening skills and boring text messages.
Social Media Obsession
Spending too much time on TikTok and checking social media during a date ranks highly as a turn-off. Other recurring icks here include frequently filming content for social media fame, trying too hard to become an influencer, and using Snapchat as a main form of communication.
Entitlement
Behaviours such as being snobby, having a ‘victim mindset’ and intentionally ignoring text messages have been giving people the ick. Women refusing to pay on a first date was also found to be a common ick for heterosexual couples.
Sexual Incompatibility
People lost interest in a romantic partner because they uploaded an overly sexualised photo to social media (known as a thirst trap), were over complimentary about someone else’s appearance, made sexual insinuations over text or had multiple sexual partners at once.
Unappealing habits
The statistics show some bad habits that could turn your potential partner off are nail biting, sitting cross-legged and having bad posture. Going to the gym obsessively and using photo filters were also found to be recurring icks. Some people even complained that they’d lost romantic interest in someone because they quoted movies and TV shows too often!
