The Refuge’s romantic Winter Garden is a twinkly, fairy lit space which offers an intimate place to taste some tipples before dinner, and there are some aptly named cocktails to try on the menu…

The Glamour of Manchester, Trafford Sour and Salford Sling are all divine, with the Piccadilly Garden Project; Beefeater gin, lemon, gomme, egg white, elderflower tonic and cucumber, taking our top spot.

After, head to the Dining Room, an informal yet elegant area with high ceilings and pretty pillars, to enjoy eclectic small plates from around the globe.

There’s Pollen Bakery sourdough with black garlic butter, corn ribs drenched in sticky hoisin sauce, hispi cabbage with flavourful soy and miso, plus juicy sirloin steak and chilli lime chicken wings – not to mention the top-tier serving of chargrilled sweet potato, finished with lightly spicy shatta crème fraîche.

The Refuge is located inside the opulent Kimpton Clocktower Hotel, making it a great place to eat and drink before retiring together upstairs. And with it being one of the most haunted buildings in the city, you may catch glimpses of a ghost or two!
