Is this the future of preventative health care?
Neko Health marked its one-year anniversary in the UK by making its highly-anticipated debut in the North, opening its Manchester centre last month.
Co-founded by Hjalmar Nilsonne and Daniel Ek, Neko Health Manchester has the capacity to serve up to 20,000 people annually, using cutting-edge technology to map millions of health data points on the body (both inside and out) in just a few minutes.
The non-invasive health check assesses moles and marks on the body, symptoms of metabolic syndrome and risk factors for stroke and heart attack, along with blood sugar levels to assess pre-diabetes risk. Additionally, it checks for skin cancer and blood abnormalities, and immediately following the scan, members will receive a full in-person debrief with a doctor to address any concerns and to look at results in more depth.
In most healthcare systems, doctors only get involved once symptoms appear and a patient seeks help, by which time a condition may already have progressed, so shifting the focus to prevention through annual check-ups, before health begins to decline, increases the chances of successful treatment and can lead to less suffering and fewer complications. It can also help reduce healthcare spending, since 75-80% of costs are related to chronic diseases – many of which are preventable if caught early.
“When we launched Neko Health, skeptics claimed preventive health was a niche interest with limited appeal outside of London. But the response to our opening in Manchester has already proven them wrong. We’re proud to bring a new kind of preventive care to one of the UK’s most dynamic cities, helping the local community here detect issues early so they can live longer, healthier lives.” – Hjalmar Nilsonne, CEO and Co-Founder
A non-invasive body scan costs £299 and the whole experience is complete in under an hour.
